Contract 6D | By South |
North/South bid to an excellent six diamond contract after my partner
overcalled a spade over the initial 1 club opening - and he says my overcalls are sub-standard! I won't go into the Auction
but it is South who first mentions diamonds and eventually he becomes declarer in this fine six diamond contract. I'm on
lead and I'm definitely tempted to lead the Ace of hearts and hope my patner can ruff the second heart. I resist the temptation
however and lead the Queen of spades, partner's suit. Declarer wins with the Ace and then leads Ace And Queen of diamonds
finding out about the four one split.
He proceeds by leading the ten of clubs to his Ace and carries on with the King and Queen and then a fourth club which he trumps with the seven and I overtrump with the eight. Declarer still has to lose the Ace Of hearts for one down. Declarer realised his mistake. He should have ruffed the 2nd club with the seven of diamonds, re-entered dummy via a spade ruff, drawn the remainder of the trumps and cashed all the established club suit.
A case I think of 'Shunning one's good fortune', wouldn't you agree?
What happened at your table??
